The program Start-up Samvaad was organized by ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad in collaboration with ICAR- Vivekanand Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (ICAR_VPKAS), Almora, Uttarakhand on Monday, March 25th, 2019 at ICAR-VPKAS. The Ecosystem Partner was Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). This event was Sponsored by CASPIAN IMPACT INVESTORS (CII). The program witnessed by more than 80 participants mainly comprised of Students, Scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, start-ups, SHGs, FPOs. The program formally started with a welcome note by Dr. Renu Jethi, Scientist, ICAR-VPKAS. Mr. Ajit Kumar, Project Manager, Agri-BioNEST from ICAR NAARMs Incubator told about the TBI of NAARM and processes for entrepreneurial development in agri Value chain. A eminent panel comrpising Mr. Abhinav Gupta, Independent Agribusiness Specialist & Consultant, World Bank, Dr. J.K. Bisht, Pr. Scientist & Head, Crop Protection, ICAR-VPKAS, Dr. Renu Jethi, Scientist, ICAR-VPKAS and Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Pr. Scientist & Head, Crop Improvement, ICAR-VPKAS discussed on “Optimistic Strategies to harness the potential of Agribusiness in Indian Hilly Terrains”. The session was moderated by Mr. Ajit Kumar. The discussion revolved around the situation of start-up ecosystem in Uttarakhand State and it’s potential to grow the state’s economy. It turned out that Uttarakhand State has the biggest potential in Tourism, Communication & Agribusiness industry which are craving for the innovations from the local youths. Mr. Abhinav gave the insights on the agribusiness & tourism and encouraged the youths/audience to opt for services in these sectors around the experience to monetize the opportunity. Dr. Lakhsmi Kant mentioned about the Institute’s roles in fostering the innovations through the technology transfer with the appropriate technologies for the hilly terrains which could ease the agricultural landscape. Dr. Renu & Dr. Bisht emphasised on the ICAR’s R&D infrastructure, support system for budding entrepreneurs, farmers and also briefed about the importance of Technology Integration for agricultural smooth operation with right usage of Mobile based Advisory in Almora region.
The panel discussion was followed by Mr. Amandeep Panwar, Founder & CEO, BharatRohan Airborne Pvt Ltd who inspired the audience with his journey and requested the youths to take part in solving the societal problem which not only gives monetary benefits but does also provide the satisfaction in life. Next speaker was Mr. Anil Sawhney, Founder of Godson Organic Farms who stressed on the responsibilities for everyone towards the mother Earth and importance of solving a problem through entrepreneurship in current scenarios where the youths are waiting for jobs to be created whereas at other side, India is full of opportunities. Dr. Shweta Singh, Founder, Enoble IP & WIEF who encouraged the women to pursue the entrepreneurship in agriculture which has a women participation of around 47% of overall human force but on the contrary, the percentage of women in start-up sectors is just 16% (approx.) and therefore there’s an acute need of women entrepreneurs in agriculture who can resonate with the needs of the sectors. The Presidential remarks was given by Dr. Lakshmi Kant followed by vote of thanks by Dr. Bisht with the acknowledgement of all the supports received from all the stakeholders to make the program successful.
