  • ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora bags three ICAR national awards

    On occasion of 91st Foundation Day Function of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the scientists of ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora were conferred three National Awards. The first award, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Zonal Krishi Vigyan Protshahan Puraskar, was given to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi), Uttarakhand for its outstanding work in the area of agricultural technology extension and farmers training among 71 KVKs of four States (Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand) in Zone I. The award was received by In-charge KVK Chinyalisaur, Dr Pankaj Nautiyal and Director of the Institute Dr Arunava Pattanayak.

    The second award, Jawaharlal Nehru Award for P.G. Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Agricultural and Allied sciences, was conferred on scientist Dr. Jitendra Kumar for his outstanding Ph.D. thesis research on ‘Development of indigenous sensor based irrigation system for improving agricultural water productivity’ in the area of Land & Water Management Engineering.

    The Institute also received Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award for Outstanding Research in Tribal Farming Systems. Under the leadership of Dr Arunava Pattanayak, Director of the Institute, the team of scientists comprising Dr. R. K. Khulbe, Dr. B. M. Pandey and Dr. Kushagra Joshi worked towards enhancing livelihood security and farm income of farmers in the Jaunsar tribal region of Uttarakhand through integration of improved agricultural technologies with traditional farming systems, the main interventions in which were increasing maize productivity up to 1.5 times by introducing maize hybrid VMH 45 and reduction in women drudgery by reducing the time in maize shelling by up to 8 times through small power-operated maize sheller.

    On this occasion, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare Sh. Narendra Singh Tomar and Secretary (DARE) & Director General, ICAR Dr, Trilochan Mohapatra congratulated the awardees and called upon them to continue the outstanding work in their respective fields.
