Parthenium Awareness Week Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi)
Directorate of Weed Research Jabalpur every year launches Parthenium awareness week to educate and aware farmers on its ill effects on biodiversity, human and animal health. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chinyalisaur, Uttarkashi observed 14th Parthenium awareness week w.e.f. 16th to 22nd August, 2019 and all KVK officials, contractual staff and field workers actively participated and cleaned the premises of this obnoxious weed. In-charge, KVK delivered a lecture on introduction of Parthenium in India and its hazards on environment and health. An on-campus Kisan Goshti was organized at KVK in which 20 farmers participated. The farmers also removed Parthenium from road sides of NH 94 and KVK premises. KVK staff motivated people of nearby villages like Chinyalisaur, Pipalmandi and Badhkot to make the Parthenium elimination a public drive.
KVK is also running RAWE programme for B.Sc. Agriculture students from Uttaranchal University, Dehradun who actively participated in this awareness campaign and informed the farming community and residents of nearby villages about menace & consequences of this notorious weed on crop yield and health. Management by biological means [by releasing Mexican beetles at different places] and mechanical means i.e. uprooting the weed and utilizing it in making compost for farm use was also demonstrated to the farmers and local residents. The whole programme was a success in view of providing general awareness about this weed among the public.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bageshwar also organized Parthenium Awaresess Week from 16 to 22 August 2019 under the directions of ICAR-ATARI, Zone -I, Ludhiana & ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, M.P. Various activities including uprooting of weed in KVK, campus, villages viz., Baidibagar, Sainj, Kholseer, adjoining market and resident area, awareness rally by the NCC students, poster and debate competition were conducted. On 22nd August, a Gosthi was organized at KVK, Bageshwar during the programme Incharge, briefed about the Parthenium weed as national threat and become dangerous to Human and animal health and environment too. Presently the weed has been spread in 35 million ha area across the country. He appealed to the students & farmers to uproot this weed from their surrounding in rainy season before flowering.
Dr. N.K.Singh, SMS (Vet.Sci.) briefed about the identification, life cycle, Shri H.C. Joshi, SMS (Plant Protection) briefed about the Biological control of weed through Maxican beetle insect (Zygograma bichlorata), physical and chemical method. In the last day of the week, a rally was organized with collaboration of forty student of National Cadet Core (NCC), Government Inter College, Kafligair to aware the public about the side effects of Parthenium weed and also uprooted the weed around school campus. During the week a poster and debate competition was also organized for the 12th & 10th class students of G.I.C. and Vivekananda Vidya Mandir School, Kafligair. Certificates and prize were awarded to first three positions at the end of the programme.
