National Science Day was celebrated on February 28, 2021 at ICAR-VPKAS, Almora to commemorate the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian Physicist Sir C. V. Raman, who was awarded Nobel prize for his work in 1930. With intent to propagate the message of importance of science and its application among the students and to motivate them towards science as a discipline in higher studies and professional career, the day was celebrated with the students of Government Inter College, Hawalbagh. In this event, about 43 students participated.
On this event Hon'ble Member of Parliament (MP) from Almora constituency Shri Ajay Tamta motivated students about the various schemes and start-ups launched by the GOI to promote science &technology, where youngsters can make their career. He also appreciated the institute work for making its excellent contribution in hill agriculture. Dr. L. Kant Director, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora informed the house that Hon'ble (MP) had suggested for organising a training of soil testing for the students on Nation Science Day and also thank Hon'ble (MP) for gracing the event by his presence and for his kind guidance. Students were made exposed to soil testing through film shows and live soil testing by Dr. Tilak Mandal. Lectures on the theme area of National science day were delivered by Dr. J.K. Bisht, Head CPD and Dr. N K. Hedau, Farm Coordinator, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora. Students also spoke on the pros and cons of science in our daily life. Science quiz competition was also organized for students and prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners by Dr. L. Kant Director, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Anuradha Bhartiya and Mr. Devendra Singh Karki.
