Two Farmer’s Training Programme entitled “Parwatiya Kshetron hetu Unnat Utapadan Taknike” (Improved Production Techniques for Hilly Areas) was organized at the Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh of ICAR-VPKAS, Almora during 10-12 January 2018 and 15-17 January 2018. Forty eight farmers from different villages of Bageshwar district along with 2 representatives of State Agriculture Department, Bageshwar, participated in this training programme. During the inaugural session, Dr. A. Pattanayak, Director of the Institute appraised the participants about the role of ICAR-VPKAS in integrated development of hill agriculture. He also interacted with the participants and discussed some practical solutions to the problems faced by the farmers. Dr. Nirmal Chandra, the Coordinator of the Training Cell, described the scope of this training programme in enhancing the income of the farmers.
During the training, various aspects of hill agriculture viz. improved varieties of hill crops, improved crop production technologies, disease and insect-pest management, seed production, small tools and farm machinery, mushroom production, poly-tank technology, honeybee rearing, seed production, fodder production, organic farming, conservation agriculture were discussed. Exposure visits to Hawalbagh Experimental Farm, Workshop, Museum were also conducted and Scientists-farmers interaction meet was organized. The training was sponsored by Chief Agriculture Officer, Bageshwar and coordinated by Dr. Dinesh Chandra Joshi, Dr. Ramesh Singh Pal and Dr V S Meena.
