Short course on Hill Agriculture organised for BHU, Varanasi Students

A training program on “Short course on Hill Agriculture” was organized by ICAR-VPKAS, Almora from 23rd to 26th June 2022 at Experimental Farm, Hawalbagh. The Director of the institute Dr. Lakshmi Kant inaugurated the training program and presented an overview of hill agriculture. A total of twenty-five students of B.Sc. (Agriculture) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi attended the training program. Out of these, 5 students were from the neighbouring country Nepal. Lectures on diverse areas of hill agriculture along with practical exposure were organised which included an overview of hill agriculture, Integrated Pest and Disease Management, Soil health and nutrient management, Safe use of Agrochemicals, Farm mechanization, Biotechnology, Mushroom cultivation, Protected cultivation, Apiary management, Water Management, Use of ICTs, etc. An exposure visit was also organised to ICAR-CITH, ICAR-IVRI regional stations at Mukteshwar and Darima Village of Nainital district for providing information on fruit cultivation, animal husbandry and demonstration of Institute technologies installed at farmers’ field. The trainees expressed their satisfaction in gaining insights about hill agriculture, the constraints and opportunities with a practical experience of scientific techniques. The training was concluded by distribution of certificates to the students by the Director of the institute. The training program was coordinated by Dr. Kushagra Joshi, Jitendra Kumar and Amit Paschapur.
