Virtual online training program on “White grubs: Symptoms of Damage and Integrated Management Strategies”

ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora had organized one-day virtual online training program on “White grubs: Symptoms of Damage and Integrated Management Strategies” on 13th of July, 2022. More than 51 officials from ICAR Institutes, state departments and KVKs of North Eastern Hill states (Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Arunanchal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Tripura) attended the training programme through Zoom app. Dr. Gaurav Varma, Scientist (Plant Pathology) welcomed the participants and gave a brief description of white grub diversity in Himalayas and the amount of damage caused by them. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director ICAR-VPKAS, Almora by his valuable introductory remarks. Honorable Director highlighted the economic importance and damage of white grubs in various crops. He also highlighted about the two pronged strategy of white grub management developed by the institute. He also advised the participants about adoption of suitable pest management strategies in order to obtain better yields.

Mr. Amit Paschapur, Scientist, (Agril. Entomology) delivered an important lecture on “Symptoms of white grub damage, their host range and integrated management strategy” he elaborated about the life cycle of white grubs, their damage symptoms, host range and integrated management strategies including cultural, mechanical, physical, biological and chemical methods to be adapted by the farmers. Later Mr. Jeevan B presented on the topic “Use of Entomopathogenic fungi for management of white grubs” he briefed the participants about mode of action of EPF’s and several commercial formulations available in the market for management of white grubs. Further, Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh presented on the topic “Exploiting the potential of Entomopathogenic nematodes for management of white grubs”. After presentation, interaction session was held, where all the queries raised by participants were addressed by the experts. The program was concluded with an official vote of thanks to the Director, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora and all the dignitaries and participants by Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh.
