Awareness Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Rights (PPV&FR) Act, 2001

ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora organized a One-Day Awareness Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Rights (PPV&FR) Act, 2001 on 31st May 2022 in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ICAR-VPKAS), Bageshwar. At the beginning of the programme, Dr. Harish Chandra Joshi, In-Charge, KVK, described the importance of KVK and ICAR system for awareness generation among the farmers at grass root level regarding the Plant Variety Protection and Registration.

The speaker of the awareness programme, Dr Anuradha Bhartiya, Senior Scientist, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora shared her views on the farmer’s rights and provided the information on the mechanism of registration of plant varieties. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Khulbe, Principal Scientist, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora described the importance of geographical indicator (GI) with special reference to Uttarakhand i.e. Dehradooni Basmati, Munsyari Rajma, Almora Bal Mithai, Bhotia dan, etc. Agriculture and Soil conservation Officer, Bageshwar Dr. Geetanjali Bangari, highlighted the potential of local produce i.e. Mandua, Mandira,Chaulai, Rajma, etc of Bageshwar district. In this programme, 86 farmers were present from different villages of Bageshwar district. Mr. Medni Pratap Singh, Farm Manager, proposed vote of thanks.
