Kisan Diwas celebration in ICAR VPKAS, Almora

ICAR VPKAS, Almora celebrated Kisan Diwas on 23rd December 2024 under Swachchta Pakhwada to commemorate the birth anniversary of Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh, India’s fifth Prime Minister, renowned for his deep understanding of rural issues and steadfast commitment to farmers’ welfare. On this occasion, an interactive workshop was organized in which 35 farmers including 30 farmwomen from Mateela, Kharkiya, Patiya, and Jeoli villages of Almora district participated. Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, in his address emphasized that Kisan Diwas serves as a reminder to honor the dedication of farmers and recognize their pivotal role in driving the nation’s progress. He encouraged farmers to view agriculture as a profitable enterprise and also highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness in both agricultural practices and daily life.

Dr. R. P. Meena, Agronomist, discussed effective weed management strategies as part of promoting cleanliness in farming. Since the day also coincides with International Mushroom Day, Dr. K. K. Mishra, Plant Pathologist, delivered an insightful lecture on year-round mushroom production in a changing climate scenario. To familiarize farmers with innovative agricultural practices, Dr. Shyam Nath, Scientist, conducted a live demonstration on drone usage in farming under Kisan Drone Yojna. Farmers shared their experiences and challenges, and solutions and recommendations were provided. Additionally, onion seedlings were distributed to the farmers under RKVY project, and polytunnels were provided under AICRP on PHET’s SCSP component. The workshop was coordinated by Drs. Kushagra Joshi and Shyam Nath.  Mr. Manoj Bhatt, Shubham Ahalawat, Rajendra Prasad, Madan Singh Bhakuni and others contributed in the programme.
